Miller Nash welcomes three talented associates to the firm’s Portland office. James O’Donnell, Blakely Vogel, and Sophia (Sophie) von Bergen will provide bench strength in key client industries and support matters ranging from environmental and complex litigation to cannabis and corporate contracts. They join a growing group of professionals who have recently joined the firm to benefit from individualized resources and support that allow their practice to grow and thrive, as well as opportunities to pursue pro bono and diversity initiatives. About James O’Donnell
O’Donnell focuses his practice on business and environmental litigation matters. He has experience representing clients from a variety of industries in all phases of litigation. In his business litigation practice, O’Donnell represents local small businesses to large national corporations in breach of contract, fraud, defamation, unfair competition, trademark infringement, and related business disputes. O’Donnell also represents businesses and property owners in a variety of environmental matters, including hazardous waste cleanups, government enforcement actions, and insurance issues. After law school, O’Donnell served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Joel DeVore of the Oregon Court of Appeals for two years. O’Donnell received his B.A. from the University of South Florida before earning his J.D. from Lewis & Clark Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and served as lead article editor for the Lewis & Clark Law Review.

About Blakely Vogel
Vogel focuses his practice on representing businesses and individuals in transactional and regulatory matters, with particular focus on supporting clients within the cannabis industry. He assists companies with entity selection and formation, and drafting and reviewing various corporate documents essential to the proper functioning of any business. Vogel has experience guiding start-ups from formation through funding, and has advised on regulatory compliance for post-funding operations. During law school, Vogel served as a legal extern for the Honorable Judge Steven Berlin and assisted California wineries of all sizes with state and federal alcohol regulatory compliance as a legal intern at the Wine Institute. Vogel received his B.A. from Colorado State University, M.A. from Boston College, and J.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law.

About Sophia von Bergen
von Bergen represents clients in all phases of litigation, with a focus on complex litigation matters and business disputes. Before joining Miller Nash, von Bergen practiced at a Portland law firm where she represented clients in commercial litigation matters, including complex cases. During law school, von Bergen was a judicial extern to the Honorable Magistrate Judge Stacie F. Beckerman at the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon where she researched and drafted opinions in civil cases. She also advised businesses at the Small Business Legal Clinic on transactional matters, including on intellectual property issues. von Bergen received her B.A. from Occidental College before earning her J.D. at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she graduated summa cum laude and served as articles editor of the Lewis & Clark Law Review. She has published on issues of gender and politics in developing countries and causes of action against companies engaged in “greenwashing.”
