Erin Burris Recognized as 2025 40 Under 40 Honoree by the Portland Business Journal

Miller Nash LLP partner Erin Burris has been named to the 2025 “40 Under 40” list by the Portland Business Journal (PBJ). Each year, the PBJ receives almost 300 nominations for the 40 Under 40 recognition. The resulting list of 40 honorees represents the region’s most influential professionals and were chosen based on their business contributions, civic involvement, and commitment to improving their communities. Erin was honored at the PBJ’s 40 Under 40 Celebration on Thursday, July 17, 2025.

In addition to her legal work, Erin serves on the board of directors for Open School, a nonprofit alternative school that serves students that need a small, relationship-based school to succeed. She also currently serves as a board member and mentorship committee co-chair of OGALLA—Oregon’s LGBTQIA+ Bar Association. At Miller Nash, Erin assisted in the creation and development of the firm’s Name and Gender-Marker Change Clinic which provides pro bono legal services to transgender and nonbinary individuals seeking name and gender marker changes in Oregon through referrals from community-based organizations.

About Erin Burris

Erin represents higher education institutions, K-12 institutions, public school districts, and private schools. She defends education clients in litigation and advises on issues including student rights and discipline, Title IX of the Education Amendments, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and an array of statutes affecting faculty and students. Erin’s employment practice includes advice and litigation related to wage-and-hour, discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, and other tort claims. She takes a thoughtful approach to client’s legal problems, making it a priority to get to know the organization to better understand its goals and mission when evaluating legal strategy. She received her bachelor’s degree from New York University before earning her law degree at the University of Oregon School of Law.
