Iván Resendiz Gutierrez Receives “Outstanding Young Alumni Award” From University of Oregon School of Law

Miller Nash Graham & Dunn LLP attorney Iván Resendiz Gutierrez received the 2020 Oregon Law Outstanding Young Alumni Award. This recognition is awarded to a University of Oregon School of Law (“Oregon Law”) graduate who has made significant career, leadership, or service contributions to their community, the School of Law, or the legal profession. The award recognizes accomplishments within their first ten years after graduation. Resendiz Gutierrez will be honored at the Oregon Law Awards Happy Hour on Friday, February 5, 2021. Resendiz Gutierrez and the other 2020 Oregon Law Awards recipients will be celebrated at the 2021 Law Alumni and Friends Fall Kickoff in Eugene, Oregon.

“To be recognized as an outstanding young alum by my alma mater, the University of Oregon School of Law, is a dream come true,” says Resendiz Gutierrez. “Oregon Law and the University of Oregon, thank you for teaching me that the ‘mind moves the mass,’ mens agitat molem, and that success comes in many different forms.”

The son of Mexican immigrants and proud brother to two members of the United States Armed Forces, Resendiz Gutierrez is active in the Oregon community. He currently serves as co-chair of the Oregon Minority Lawyers Association and co-chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the Oregon Chapter of the Federal Bar Association. He also serves as the vice-chair of the Legal Aid Services of Oregon Board of Directors and as an Executive Committee member-at-large of Oregon Law Center’s Board of Directors, allowing him to help provide high quality legal services to low-income communities across Oregon. Resendiz Gutierrez is also a proud member of the Headwaters Council of The Freshwater Trust (TFT), an advisory group comprised of emerging business leaders, disrupters, decision-makers, and influencers who help TFT drive the next generation of creative and networked conservation and philanthropy. A past president of the Oregon Hispanic Bar Association, Resendiz Gutierrez enjoys mentoring new lawyers and law students and routinely participates in programs aimed to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion in the Oregon legal community.

Resendiz Gutierrez is a litigation and appellate attorney on the firm’s appellate, education, and employment and labor relations practice teams. He handles complex cases and situations, providing practical advice and finding creative solutions for clients from such diverse industries as education, energy, and manufacturing. Before joining Miller Nash LLP, Resendiz Gutierrez served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Lynn R. Nakamoto at the Oregon Supreme Court and the Oregon Court of Appeals.

In 2019, Resendiz Gutierrez received the "Top Lawyers Under 40" Award from the Hispanic National Bar Association, and in 2017, Resendiz Gutierrez received the Oregon State Bar President’s Diversity & Inclusion Award. Resendiz Gutierrez has also been recognized as a Rising Star by Oregon Super Lawyers Magazine since 2018 and selected for inclusion in Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch.

A proud “Double Duck,” Resendiz Gutierrez received his bachelor’s degree (in psychology and political science) from the University of Oregon before earning his law degree at the University of Oregon School of Law.
