Madeline Engel

Madeline is an attorney on Miller Nash Graham & Dunn’s litigation team and regularly represents clients in both Washington and Oregon. Madeline began her career with the firm in 2008 as a summer associate in the Portland office. Since joining Miller Nash Graham & Dunn as an associate, Madeline has assisted clients on a wide range of litigation matters involving insurance, labor and employment, education, healthcare, and general business law. She has successfully prepared and argued dispositive motions, including motions for summary judgment, has advocated for clients through administrative hearings, and has represented clients in alternative-dispute-resolution processes, including mediations. Madeline believes that great advocacy is achieved through experience, intelligence, enthusiasm, and competitiveness, and she strives to bring this combination to every matter on which she works.

Representative Experience

Successful representation of a policyholder in insurance-coverage dispute in which the insurance company, which had previously refused to uphold the policy, paid the policy limit in full after mediation.
Represented employers in pre-litigation settlement of claims under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, where claimants alleged that the employers took adverse employment actions without disclosing a copy of the consumer report on which the alleged adverse actions were based. Representation included researching defenses, communicating with claimants' attorneys, and negotiating confidential settlements of the claims.
Successful motion for summary judgment on multi million-dollar breach-of-contract claim brought by the client, a Washington health plan provider.
Successful motion for summary judgment dismissing a complaint for injunctive relief brought against the client, a public school district.
