John R. Knapp, Jr.

John Knapp is a partner in Miller Nash Graham & Dunn's Seattle office and serves as the leader of the firm's bankruptcy & creditors’ rights practice team. John advises businesses and individuals on business bankruptcy and commercial law matters, with an emphasis on Chapter 11 reorganization. His experience includes representing debtors, debtors-in-possession, Chapter 11 trustees, receivers, creditors' committees, secured lenders and other lienholders, landlords, suppliers, service providers, and licensors of intellectual property. He served as the judicial law clerk to Judge Peter J. Walsh (ret.) of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware in 1997-1998.

Representative Experience

Represented debtor-in-possession through Section 363 sale process and distribution to creditors under confirmed plan. Issues included Chapter 11 administration and sale of assets of liquidating, insolvent business.
Chaired official unsecured creditors' committee and served as counsel to large supplier. Issues included recovering substantial amounts for claims for goods supplied before bankruptcy (Section 503(b)(9) priority).
Represented debtor-in-possession through Section 363 sale process and distribution to creditors. Issues included Chapter 11 administration and sale of assets of insolvent, going-concern business.
Represented secured lenders in restructuring and obtaining substantial recoveries through sales of assets and settlements.
Represented state court receiver for companies in technology, wood products, automobile sales, household and luxury goods, and real estate development. Issues included sale of assets and administration of receivership estate.
