Chris Helmer, a partner with Miller Nash, was selected to serve as counsel for the U.S. party in a mock ICDR Article 37 emergency relief hearing presented to attendees at the Chicago session of the 2008 ICDR North America Dispute Resolution Series. Effective May 1, 2006, the ICDR adopted the first opt-out emergency interim relief provision among major international arbitral institutions. The hour-long mock hearing, presided over by well-known international arbitrator Bill Rowley, Q.C., was designed to acquaint the audience of arbitration counsel and arbitrators with issues expected to be encountered in utilizing the new rule.
