About Marie

Marie Weiskopf works closely with technology companies to ensure their innovations are protected.  Marie’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in the electrical, computer, and mechanical arts, as well as patent portfolio analysis.  She has broad experience counseling companies of all sizes, from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of different industries. 

Marie works collaboratively with inventors and companies to develop strong patent portfolios.   Over the course of her career, Marie has gained extensive experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications on test and measurement instruments, video compression, gaming systems, printing technologies, and medical devices, among many others.  She also advises clients on patentability and infringement risks of products, as well as validity of patents. 

Marie began her career as a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office examining U.S. and international patent applications in the data processing arts. She also worked at a large IP boutique firm in Washington, D.C., where she focused on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, interference proceedings, and inter partes reexaminations at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Marie gained additional experience at an IP boutique firm in Portland, Oregon, where she focused on the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in a number of different technology areas.

  • Risk Infringement Plus
    • Conducted freedom-to-operate searches and advised clients on risk of infringement of newly developed concepts.

    • Advised client on risk of infringement of competitor’s patents for new product.

    • Updated client’s virtual patent marking database by comparing products with issued patents to determine which products are covered by the issued patents.

    • Conducted patentability searches for a number of medical device concepts and advised client on patentability.

    • Discovered key piece of prior art missed by search firm for an opinion related to test and measurement instrument.

    • Managed and guided medical device patent portfolio for valuable client product.

Outside the Office

In her free time, Marie enjoys building Lego® with her husband, playing any and all Super Mario® video games, tackling jigsaw puzzles, or reading science fiction. When the weather is nice, Marie enjoys spending time at the Oregon Coast—wine tasting or watching her Cardigan Corgis, R2D2 & BB8, romp in the sand.
