Intellectual PropertyPatents and Trademarks Attorney (Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver)

Miller Nash is seeking an attorney with two to four years of experience to join our Technology Department in Portland, Seattle, or Vancouver, Washington.

Miller Nash’s intellectual property attorneys bring a wealth of experience when advising the Pacific Northwest’s leading technology businesses. Our clients range from small, individual inventors to large companies with substantial national and international operations headquartered or doing business in our region. We use a team approach to meet our clients’ needs, and our attorney teams bring deep legal knowledge, practical and innovative problem-solving, as well as a profound understanding of our clients’ industries and technologies to each project we take on.

The candidate will be required to prepare and prosecute patent applications, perform patent analysis and, less often, perform trademark analysis and handle trademark transactions. Our ideal candidate will have a background in electrical or mechanical engineering, with some software experience, and an interest in trademarks. We are searching for a team member who is hard working and responsive, exercises good judgment under pressure, has excellent research and writing skills, is self-directed but willing to implement feedback, and is ready to hit the ground running on pending matters and immediate client needs. Strong academic credentials, willingness and ability to learn new technologies, and demonstrated analytical aptitude required.

We are looking for a team member who is a registered patent attorney, or eligible to take the USPTO Registration Exam. Registration as an attorney in any of the United States or the District of Columbia required. Membership in the Oregon or Washington State Bar Association or qualification for reciprocity is required. California State Bar license is a plus.

To apply, please send your cover letter, résumé, writing sample, and law school transcript (unofficial is acceptable) by email to MNRecruiting@millernash.com.

This involvement extends beyond our own offices to the clients we serve and to the communities where we live and work. As part of our commitment, we have developed a women and minority business enterprise program that affords all attorneys the ability to attract and represent, at a reduced fee, small and emerging women and minority business enterprises.

Miller Nash is also proud to participate in Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule Certification program which measures whether law firms have affirmatively considered at least 30 percent women, attorneys of color, LGBTQ+, and attorneys with disabilities for, among other things, senior lateral positions. In 2020, we successfully completed Diversity Lab’s Mansfield 3.0 program and achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status. We are one of 117 leading law firms, and 50 corporate legal departments participating in the 2021 Mansfield 4.0 initiative which runs from July 2020 to July 2021.
