2008 Summer Clerk Biographies

Portland Summer Clerks

Cody Elliott

Cody just completed his third year at Lewis & Clark Law School, where he began as an evening program student and will graduate in December 2008. At Lewis & Clark, Cody serves as articles editor for the Lewis & Clark Law Review and is in the top 5 percent of his class. Cody was the recipient of the 2007 Harpole Memorial Legacy Scholarship and served as a legal research and writing teaching assistant. Cody attended Boston University, where he received a bachelor of fine arts degree in theatre studies. Before and during law school, Cody worked as the sales and marketing manager for Morton's, The Steakhouse.

In his free time, Cody enjoys spending time with his family, cooking, developing wine knowledge, playing golf, browsing used-music stores, and doing crossword puzzles.


Madeline Engel

Originally from Seattle, Madeline returned to the Pacific Northwest to attend law school after receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia. Madeline is in the top 15 percent of her class at the University of Oregon School of Law and was recently elected executive editor of the Oregon Law Review. She tutors first-year students in legal research and writing and is an active moot court competitor, representing her school at both the Negotiation Competition and the National Appellate Advocacy Competition. While at Virginia, Madeline was captain of the women’s varsity crew team and was named to First Team All-American. Madeline has since turned her athletic focus to triathlons and raced for the USA Triathlon Age-Group National Team from 2004 to 2007.

Madeline enjoys running, biking, walking her dog, and spending time with her friends and family.


Will Fisher

Originally from Boise, Idaho, Will moved to the Portland area at the age of four. After graduating from high school, Will served as a missionary in Brazil for two years and lived on the borders of Uruguay and Argentina, before returning to earn his bachelor's degree in sociology from Brigham Young University. Will is currently a second-year law student at the University of Oregon, where he is in the top 3 percent of his class and is a staff editor for the Oregon Law Review. Before entering law school, Will worked as a liability insurance adjuster for Grocers Insurance, an experience he found extremely rewarding.

Will enjoys supporting his local sports teams, music of various styles and eras, and spending time with his baby daughter.


Rose Gibson

Rose just finished her first year at the University of Oregon School of Law, after having graduated from Washington State University–Vancouver with a bachelor's degree in public affairs policy. While an undergraduate, Rose worked as a customer service representative and loan officer for Cascade Callworks, Inc., and Pacific Equity Services. Rose has volunteered at the Lane County Legal Aid and Advocacy Center and on the WSU–Vancouver Diversity Council.

Rose enjoys all things outdoors, basketball, walking, family time, and public radio.


Julie Jarvis

Julie recently finished her second year at Willamette University College of Law, where she was the winner of the Willamette First-Year Appellate Competition and is an active member of the Willamette Law Review and the moot court. Julie graduated summa cum laude, with a degree in political science from the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Before entering law school, Julie worked as the office manager for Ponzi Vineyards.

Julie enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, and gardening.


Brian Sniffen

Brian is originally from Kansas City, Missouri, and moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, with his family when he was seven. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Washington, where he earned a biology degree and was a teaching and research assistant. Brian worked for a year before he began law school at Gonzaga, where he is the vesting editor for the Gonzaga Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Honors Council, and a member of several public-service organizations. His moot court team recently won Best Brief in the West, won Second Best Brief in the Nation, and placed second overall in the western region for the Saul Lefkowitz Moot Court Competition (focusing on intellectual property and unfair competition). Last summer, Brian clerked at K&L Gates.

Brian enjoys cooking, hiking, relaxing with friends and family, running, and traveling.


Jovita Wang

Jovita recently completed her first year at the University of Washington School of Law, where she is an active member of the Minority Law Students Association and the Law Women's Caucus, and serves as secretary of the Chinese American Law Students Association. She received her bachelor's degree in philosophy from Emory University. In Seattle, Jovita volunteers at both the Unemployment Law Project and the Immigrant Families Advocacy Project. Before attending law school, Jovita was an AmeriCorps member at an elementary school and a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Washington County.

Jovita enjoys reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.


Gabriel Dalarun

Gabe, who is from Paris, France, is joining us as a Summer Clerk Intern for three weeks. From 2004-2005, he attended the University of St. Bonaventure in New York to study journalism. He is now attending the University of Paris I-Sorbonne, where he is a third-year student majoring in Law. Gabe's interests include international relations and modern history, and he enjoys boxing and swimming. In addition to French, he is also fluent in Italian and English.


Seattle Summer Clerks

Danielle Cross

Danielle graduated from the University of Montana in 2004 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. In the summer of 2004, she took first place in the Hearst Foundation Journalism Awards National Championship for radio reporting after a two-day competition in San Francisco. Danielle worked for the NBC affiliate in Spokane, Washington, as a television news producer before starting law school at Seattle University, where she is currently in the top 5 percent of her class and a member of law review. In addition, Danielle serves as a teaching assistant for a first-year contracts class.

In her free time, Danielle enjoys attending baseball games, skiing, running, hiking, and practicing the banjo.


Ty Rogers

Ty recently finished his second year at Seattle University School of Law, where he is a Presidential Scholar and a member of the law review. Originally from Portland, Ty attended Occidental College in Los Angeles, where he earned a degree in history and was selected to be a member of the Phi Alpha Theta national history honors society. While at Occidental, Ty was also a member of the school’s basketball team and cohosted a weekly talk radio show. After moving to Seattle, Ty worked for three years at MWW Group, one of the nation’s top ten public relations and public affairs firms, before beginning law school. An avid traveler, Ty has visited or lived in more than 35 countries on six continents, most recently taking the train from Beijing, China, to Lhasa, Tibet, with his wife.

Ty and his wife spend their free time running their own photography business, traveling, snowboarding, biking, and exploring the outdoors around Seattle and the Northwest.
