Summer Clerk Biographies

2010 Portland Summer Clerks

Christopher Foster

Christopher recently finished his second year at U.C. Berkeley School of Law (formerly Boalt Hall), where he is the submissions editor for the Berkeley Journal of Employment and Labor Law. Last summer, he externed for Chief Judge Robert H. Whaley of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Washington. Christopher has completed externships at the Spokane District Attorney's Office Juvenile Division and The Center for Justice, a nonprofit legal clinic in Spokane. He graduated with a B.S. in economics from Santa Clara University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and also earned a scholarship to spend his junior year at Oxford University. The summer after his freshman year at Santa Clara, Christopher studied German at Universität Heidelberg and interned in the marketing department of an international manufacturing firm located in Bavaria.

Christopher enjoys running, swimming, kayaking, and hiking with friends and family.


Im Han Kim

Im Han recently completed her first year at Lewis & Clark Law School, where she is involved with the National Lawyers Guild and the Minority Law Students Association, and is currently running for the Student Bar Association's Board of Visitors student representative position. Im Han received her bachelor's degree in psychology, cum laude, from the University of Maryland and her master of science degree in psychology from Loyola University. She is an active member of organizations involving veterans affairs and is currently working to recertify as a crisis counselor in Oregon.

In her free time, Im Han enjoys cooking, planning social events, and engaging in the many outdoor activities the Northwest has to offer.


Jesús Palomares

Jesús recently completed his second year at the University of Oregon School of Law, where he is an active member of the Latina/o American Law Student Association and a contributing editor for The Legality.com, the law school's online legal journal. His article FREEDOM AND GUNS FOR ALL NONE SOME? A Viewer's Guide to McDonald v. Chicago will be published in the spring. Jesús received his bachelor's degree in business administration at Western Washington University, completing both the Finance and International Business programs. Currently, Jesús serves as a Diversity Building Scholar at the University of Oregon, working with the university to improve access to secondary education for underrepresented groups in Oregon. Jesús will be working at the Mexican firm Barrera Siqueiros y Torres Landa, S.C., for the second half of the summer.

Jesús enjoys all sports, coaching, exploring the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.


James Walker

James recently completed his second year at the University of Michigan Law School. Within the law school, James serves as a member of Future Advocates in Training (FAIT), a volunteer mentorship program designed to enhance the reading, writing, and critical analysis skills of high school students, and the Black Law Student Alliance (BLSA). In addition to his legal studies, he teaches an undergraduate course on the history of Africa's diasporas. James earned his bachelor's degree in economics at the University of Michigan. As an undergraduate, he worked as a tutor for the Community Learning Post and as a resident adviser for university housing. During his 1L summer, James worked as a summer associate at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in Cleveland, Ohio.

In his spare time, James enjoys movies, softball, wiffleball, and reading current events.


Sharae Wheeler

Sharae recently completed her second year at New York University School of Law, where she is a member of the Moot Court Board, serves on the executive boards of both the NYU Law Women organization and the High School Law Institute, and recently coauthored the New York University Orison S. Marden Competition problem. Sharae received her bachelor's degree in history at the University of Washington, where she was actively involved in many facets of campus life and her undergraduate thesis was published in the Washington Undergraduate Law Review. During her 1L summer, Sharae served as a research assistant to Professors Betsy Ginsberg and Geoffrey Miller. Currently, Sharae is a lawyering teaching assistant and a LexisNexis associate.

Sharae enjoys baking, collecting family histories, and spending time outdoors.
