Professional Experience A partner since 1978, Peter C. Richter has helped hundreds of clients resolve their legal problems through negotiation, mediation, arbitration, and jury trials. His cases have involved numerous legal issues, including contract, securities, antitrust, probate and trust, copyright and trademark, real estate, tort and insurance, personal injury, franchise, banking, partnership, creditors' rights, labor, land use, and timber law.
Peter was named one of Oregon's ten best litigators by the National Law Journal and Law & Politics Oregon Super Lawyers. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Association of Defense Counsel. Additionally, Peter has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, is listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Law, and is included in Corporate Counsel's Best Lawyers: Business Litigation section.
Professional Activities Peter is admitted to practice in all Oregon courts and federal courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
He is an adjunct professor at Lewis & Clark Law School, where he teaches trial advocacy. He also teaches trial advocacy for the Oregon State Bar and cofounded the Oregon State Bar Trial Advocacy College.
He has served on the board of directors of the Oregon Association of Defense Counsel and the Commercial Litigation section of the Oregon State Bar. He has served as a judge pro tempore for the Multnomah County Circuit Court.
As a member of the American Bar Association, Peter has served on several subcommittees of its Litigation section. He is also a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
Civic Activities Peter was the president of the Multnomah Athletic Club and was on the advisory board of the Pacific Crest Outward Bound School. He is a former board member of both the Parry Center for Children and the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
Education Peter earned his bachelor's degree and his law degree at the University of Oregon.
Personal Activities
In his spare time, Peter plays tennis and squash, rides his motorcycle, and enjoys skiing, mountain-biking, golf, and reading.
