Professional Experience

John A. Lusky has been associated with Miller Nash since 1977 and has been a partner since 1984. His practice involves bank and insurance regulatory law, as well as general business law.

As a specialist in banking law, John has advised various types of financial institutions on a wide variety of regulatory issues under federal and state law, including compliance with the Bank Holding Company Act, sale of nondeposit investment products, fair lending matters, and acceptance of standard and brokered deposits.

As a specialist in consumer credit law, John has advised numerous creditors on matters involving the compliance of loan, security, and disclosure documents with federal and state law, including documents for fixed- and variable-rate lending programs and secured and unsecured lending programs, and what to do if there has been a compliance failure.

John has also been extensively involved in resolving complex legal disputes through the drafting of settlement documents. For example, he was the principal drafter of the settlement agreements that substantially resolved the multiple private lawsuits arising from the receivership of Capital Consultants, LLC. In addition, he advises business clients regarding complex insurance coverage issues.

Professional Activities
John is active in the Oregon State Bar and is a member of the consumer financial services committee of the American Bar Association.

Education
John earned his bachelor’s degree at Harvard University and his law degree at Stanford Law School.

Personal Activities
John enjoys traveling and long-distance running. An avid bridge player, he has qualified to represent Oregon in national bridge tournaments on numerous occasions.

Presentations and Publications
John wrote the chapter entitled "Regulations Affecting Real Estate Loans and Sales" in the book Regulation and Taxation of Real Estate, published by the Oregon State Bar in 1995 and updated in 1999. He regularly speaks to industry groups about consumer compliance issues.
