First-Year Law Student Diversity Fellowship

Miller Nash Graham & Dunn LLP ("MNG&D"), a full-service law firm with offices located in the Pacific Northwest and California, is dedicated to providing superior and comprehensive legal services to a wide range of the region’s prominent businesses, nonprofits, public entities, and individuals. MNG&D and its clients believe that the quality of legal services delivered will be significantly aided by increasing and promoting diversity both within the firm and within the region’s legal, business, public-sector, and philanthropic communities. To achieve this goal, MNG&D has created a multifaceted Diversity Program that includes the highly selective Diversity Fellowship. For Summer 2018, MNG&D will make available one Fellowship to an exceptional law student in their first year of law school. The Fellowship recipient will receive a paid summer associate position at MNG&D’s Seattle, Washington, office. After successful completion of the summer associate clerkship, the Fellowship recipient will be awarded a $10,000 scholarship. A recipient may receive a MNG&D Diversity Fellowship only once.

APPLICANT CRITERIA
1. To apply for the first-year Fellowship, you must:

  • Be a first-year law student in good standing at an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Intend to work, live, and practice law in the Pacific Northwest following graduation. 
  • Be willing and able to fill a summer associate position at MNG&D for at least ten weeks. 
  • Demonstrate academic excellence, interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and meaningful
    contributions to the community.

2. Upon request, 1L Fellowship recipients must also be willing to spend a portion of their 2L summer at the firm.

APPLICATION MATERIALS REQUIRED
1. Statement of interest (2 to 5 pages), in which you describe the following:

  • Significant community-service organizations or projects in which you have participated.
  • Leadership roles you have held, and the lessons you have learned from those experiences. 
  • Other qualifications, professional experiences, life experiences, or indicators of success that you
    believe qualify you to aid MNG&D in its mission to increase and promote diversity as described in
    the first paragraph above.

2. Current résumé.
3. Law school transcript and an undergraduate transcript (unofficial is acceptable for each).
4. List of three academic or professional references.
5. Self-edited legal writing sample (5 to 10 pages).
